Design Strategy: Enhancing urban orderliness

THE ISSUES:

1. Unorganized hawker stall roadside: The proliferation of unorganized hawker stalls along busy roadsides poses a significant issue for urban orderliness. These makeshift setups often lead to chaotic traffic conditions,pedestrian congestion and increased littering. Without proper regulation and planning, these stalls can hinder smooth traffic flow, compromise pedestrian safety and result in an unsightly urban environment

2. Illegal parking on the road:it exacerbates traffic congestion, especially in densely populated areas. Vehicles parked haphazardly on the roadside can impede traffic flow, create bottlenecks and lead to traffic jams. It contributes to a negative aesthetic impact on the cityscape

THE SOLUTIONS:

1. Utilize Green Space nearby by Relocating Unorganized Hawker Stalls:Relocate to the nearby unutilized greenspaces, where these vendors can operate without disrupting traffic. DBKL can work in collaboration with urban planners/architects (can look for me 😀) to plan and utilize the existing green spaces. By relocating these stalls to this area, the government can enforce health and safety standards, waste management protocols and ensure that urban environment remains clean and orderly

2. Replace existing unorganized hawker with green covered walkway:These walkways will provide pedestrians with safe, shaded paths to move around comfortably. The integration of greenery along the walkways contributes to the city's overall environmental sustainability. The city can experience urban revitalization

3. Green integrated hawker zone:Organized hawker zones within green spaces can foster a sense of community and cooperation among vendors. Reintroduce the combination of the natural environment and diverse food offerings will entice people to explore the area. Collectively benefit from the increased flow of customers,leading to a stronger local economic network.

4. Move Illegal Parking to Multistorey Parking:To combat illegal roadside parking,local authorities maybe can discuss with Lotus's Malaysia as their highest level of multistorey parking facilities are always empty.Suggest DBKL to commercial deal to have a win-win situation

SO WHAT’S THE BENEFIT?

1. Improved Traffic Flow:Relocating unorganized hawker stalls will lead to smoother traffic flow,as roadsides will be cleared of obstructions

2. Improved Road Safety:Eliminating roadside parking will enhance road safety for both drivers and pedestrians,minimizing the risk of accidents.

3. Safer Pedestrian Zones:Pedestrian safety will be enhanced with organized hawker zones

4. Economy booster:By having a hipster kind of hawker zone,redefine the future of eatery,elevating the current hawker experience as well as recreate dining experience for customers

5. Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal:By regulating hawker stalls,the city's appearance will improve, offering a more appealing environment
